CHURCH APPLIES TO TOWN FOR WARRANT ARTICLE TO SUPPORT THE CHURCH PARK

We are counting down the weeks before our families are outside again in the beautiful greenspace that Boscawen has to offer.  How many of you know that the park located on the left as you drive north at the intersection of Routes 3 and 4 is owned and maintained by the Boscawen Congregational Church?  This 16-acre “Church Park” along with the Parsonage that sits to the left of the park entrance was donated to the church in the 1830’s, and has been enjoyed by generations of local families.

The Church currently has three ball leagues that regularly use the Church Park that includes the Merrimack Valley Youth Baseball and Softball League, the Boscawen Men’s Softball League and the Church Co-ed Softball League.   A total of 250 children and more than 250 adults across 36 teams use these fields to play ball.  The leagues are happy that they have access to the Church Park free of charge, and the Church is thrilled to have the community use the park.    Making this park available to the wider community is part of the Church’s mission. Volunteers from the three leagues along with volunteers from the Church conduct all the maintenance of the Park.

The Church, along with the Presidents of all three leagues have plans to improve the park that include regrading the infields of both the north and south fields, expanding the outfield of the south field, bringing in bark mulch to make the playground area safer and expanding the picnic areas.
To help accomplish this, per RSA 39:3, the Boscawen Congregational Church is submitting a petition warrant article to the Town of Boscawen for consideration at the upcoming town Meeting.  The warrant article is requesting "To see if the town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $1,500 to contribute to the operating costs of the Boscawen Church Park that is used by the community"

In 2020, the Church was successful in getting this same $1,500 warrant article passed thanks to the registered voters of Boscawen.  A portion of the 2020 funds were used to hire a local landscaping company to mow, clear brush, and complete seasonal cleanup.  Not all the money was spent and the remaining funds will be used to support the league’s improvement plans for Spring 2021, but fall short of what is necessary.
The Boscawen Congregational Church is asking each of you to vote “YES” to approve this warrant article at the annual Boscawen Town meeting. This money is critical to make these improvements to the Church Park.  The Church will not use these Warrant Article funds to pay taxes to the Town on the park property and all funds will go to improving the fields, playground and picnic areas.  We thank you in advance for your consideration. If you have questions, please call Beverly Drouin at 545-4775.

"VIRTUAL" CROP WALK FOR HUNGER GREAT SUCCESS

Picture
This year's Crop Walk for Hunger, though virtual due to the pandemic was a great success!  We are grateful to those in our community that donated to our Church's "virtual walkers" as we made an estimated $1,000.  Overall the New Hampshire "Crop Walk for Hunger" made more than $10,000.

CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by religious groups, businesses, schools and others to raise funds to end hunger in the U.S. and around the world.

CHURCH RECORDS NOW ONLINE AT THE NE HISTORICAL GENEOLOGICAL SOCIETY

The church loaned our records to the New England Historic Genealogy Society last year.  They filmed and digitally copied all the records.   One of the digital copies was placed at the Boscawen Historical Society with a second set at church.

The NE Historical Geneological Society indexed the records and now will be making them available to their members for genealogical research!
Thank you Ron Reed for making this happen!

CHURCH STRATEGIC PLANNING UNDERWAY

Picture
“A plan without action is a dream, action without a plan is a nightmare”

Expanding our presence, being a "beacon of light" in the community, spreading the good news, involving more youth, supporting the community park, and providing an opportunity for spiritual growth for everyone are all included in the Church's 3-year Strategic Plan that is under development.

More than 30 people, over an eleven month period participated in small group meetings to ask themselves these questions.

  • It's five years from today and we have created an awesome Church - describe it.
  • Why do we do what we do - what's the purpose?
  • Who does the Church serve?
  • How do we do this?
  • What are our strenghts, weaknesses, opportunities and threats?

The feedback from these meetings was boiled down to common themes which the 2021-2023 Boscawen Congregational Church Strategic Action Plan will encompass.

If you are interested in learning more about how to be involved in the Church's strategic planning, email Boscawencongregational@gmail.com.
